Young Master Qin (秦公子, Qín-gōngzǐ) is a man who calls upon the help of Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian, and Lan Sizhui to deal with a Fierce Corpse.
Appearance[]
Young Master Qin's appearance is not described.
Personality[]
Young Master Qin seems to believe quite firmly in the idea that servants should know their place, as he attributes pride to his grandmother's servant once the boy attended school with him.[1]
Additionally, Young Master Qin appears to have been hot-tempered, as he reluctantly admitts beating the servant after discovering that he had lost his grandmother's jade pendant. While Wei Wuxian speculates that this led to the servant's leg being permanently crippled, Young Master Qin refuses to say if this was the case.[2]
Overall, Young Master Qin is hesitant to take responsibility and admit his wrongdoings, as he frequently chooses to either lie or omit large portions of the truth.[3]
However, after the fierce corpse returns the jade pendant of Young Master Qin's grandmother, he generously provides for the corpse's funeral after it lost its fierceness, indicating that Young Master Qin is capable of changing his ways.[2]
History[]
After a fierce corpse with a crippled leg begins visiting his household at night, Young Master Qin happens by chance to encounter Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian, and Lan Sizhui. He entreats their assistance, but when Wei Wuxian senses that he lies to them, he lies in return. Wei Wuxian tells Young Master Qin that the hopping fierce corpse cannot breach his threshold, and thus he has no need of swords or Talismans. Thus, the three cultivators go to rest in the small, elegant Bamboo Cottage nearby.[3]
That night, Young Master Qin is frightened to realize that, despite its crippled leg, the corpse can, in fact, leap into the air and enter his courtyard. He returns to the Gusu Lan Clan cultivators the next day and admits that he did know the corpse after all.[3]
The crippled fierce corpse is a former servant of his grandmother's, who had even been allowed to attend schooling with Young Master Qin and his classmates. When the servant stubbornly refused to believe he was wrong on a matter, Young Master Qin and his classmates chased him away. The servant died two years previously, after suffering a fall while drunk.[1]
That night, the fierce corpse takes on the appearance of Master Qin's wife to persuade him to grant him entrance. Madam Qin had actually fled to her parents' after the corpse began approaching and had no reason to return. Disturbed, Master Qin again approaches the Gusu Lan Clan cultivators and confesses to having given the servant a jade pendant of his grandmother's, then beating him when he lost it.[1]
Wei Wuxian inquires if the beating was responsible for his broken leg, and Young Master Qin amends his story to clarify that he had sent his servants to beat the servant. Thus, he does not know about the leg and is not responsible.[2]
Wei Wuxian then insists that Lan Sizhui has to guard the doors that night, as he is the only virgin with considerable yang energy around. When Young Master Qin requests that Lan Wangji guard the door instead, presuming him to be a virgin, Wei Wuxian bursts into laughter.[2]
That night, Lan Sizhui battles the corpse, while Young Master Qin waits anxiously inside. When Wei Wuxian asks why the fight is taking so long, Lan Sizhui claims that the corpse keeps evading him, as if it does not want to harm him. Wei Wuxian then kicks open the door and allows it to approach the frightened Young Master Qin.[2]
In the corpse's hand is the jade pendant the servant had lost in life. After tying it around Young Master Qin's neck, the servant's corpse punches Young Master Qin and departs at last.[2]
Less than a week later, the corpse's body is found in the streets, having lost its fierceness. Young Master Qin pays for its proper burial.[2]
