Wangxian: Forgetting Envy - Part One is the one-hundred and eleventh chapter of Mo Dao Zu Shi.

Synopsis []

As Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji leave Yunping City with Little Apple, Wei Wuxian explains that Sisi was a friend of Jin Guangyao's mother, Meng Shi.

Lan Wangji concludes that their friendship was why Jin Guangyao spared her. Wei Wuxian says that he still does not feel they should tell Lan Xichen yet, and Lan Wangji declares that he will tell Lan Xichen in the future should he ask. Right now, for Lan Xichen, comfort is useless.

Lan Wangji tells Wei Wuxian that there is something he has not told him. Just then, Lan Sizhui and Wen Ning arrive. To Wei Wuxian's astonishment, Lan Sizhui recalls his identity as Wen Yuan. They have a tearful reunion, and Lan Wangji admits that this is what he had to tell him: he rescued Wen Yuan from the Burial Mounds, and took him to live as a member of the Gusu Lan Clan.

Lan Sizhui teases Wei Wuxian about the illicit things he taught him, and Wei Wuxian returns the favor by teasing him about his childhood antics, including the time he called Lan Wangji his "Dad" in Yiling.

Wen Ning and Lan Sizhui declare their intent to build a cenotaph for his clan in Qishan before Lan Sizhui returns to the Cloud Recesses. Wen Ning insists that Wei Wuxian does not need to accompany them, revealing that he has finally found something he wants to do for himself.

As he watches them go, Wei Wuxian cannot help but feel a bit melancholic. Lan Wangji reassures him that Wen Ning can settle by the Cloud Recesses and see him often.

Wei Wuxian reflects that Lan Wangji really dislikes when he thanks him, because Wei Wuxian always used those words to draw a distinction between Lan Wangji and himself. Lan Wangji replies that there is no need for "thank you" or "I'm sorry" between them.

Wei Wuxian kisses Lan Wangji, who passionately returns the kiss after Wei Wuxian teases him for his lack of reaction.

As they kiss, Wei Wuxian realizes that Lan Wangji was the person who kissed him during the night-hunt at Mount Baifeng. Although Lan Wangji says that he was very much in the wrong, Wei Wuxian merely congratulates him on giving him his first kiss.

Lan Wangji is taken aback, and Wei Wuxian recalls his proclamation that he had a lot of experience. He laughs until Lan Wangji silences him with more kisses. The two make their way off the trail into the forest surrounding them.

Wei Wuxian proceeds to perform oral sex on Lan Wangji. When Lan Wangji attempts intercourse, Wei Wuxian is surprised to learn that intercourse between men can even exist.

Wei Wuxian notices the brand on Lan Wangji's chest. All Lan Wangji explains is that he was drunk.

To himself, Lan Wangji recalls how he dragged his beaten body back to the Burial Mounds to search for Wei Wuxian's remains. He spent days there and was only able to find Wen Yuan alive, having been hidden in a hollow tree trunk. The boy had lost all his memories due to a high fever.

When Lan Sizhui returned to the Cloud Recesses, he bought Wei Wuxian's favorite Emperor's Smile from Caiyi Town. He became drunk and ransacked the Cloud Recesses' treasure room looking for a flute. Despite Lan Xichen's attempts to provide the finest flute he could, Lan Wangji was unsatisfied, as he was actually looking for a person, not a flute. In despair, he found the Branding Irons confiscated from the Wens and seared his own chest.

In the aftermath, Lan Wangji knelt for a day and night as punishment. However, Lan Qiren never scolded him, and he stopped opposing Lan Wangji's decision to keep Wen Yuan.

In the present, Wei Wuxian continually teases Lan Wangji throughout their lovemaking. When he asks him to pretend he never heard his promise to do this everyday, Lan Wangji replies that "everyday is everyday."[1]
