The Thousand Sores and Hundred Holes Curse (千疮百孔咒, Qiān Chuāng Bǎi Kǒng Zhòu) is a rare, deadly spiritual curse that is particularly difficult to remove.[1]

Description[]

The curse consists of holes that spread evenly across the body, with the smaller holes the size of sesame seeds, and the larger ones as large as soybeans. At first, the victim of the curse feels nothing, at most noticing that their pores have become rougher.[1]

However, as time passes, the holes begin to grow in size and number. The curse spreads until the victim's entire body is covered in holes of all sizes. Once the surface of the skin is covered, the curse will spread inward and affect the internal organs until the victim dies.[1]

Only people with low cultivation are susceptible to the curse. There are only two known methods of removal: convince the caster to remove it, or kill the caster.[1]

Use[]

Wei Wuxian once reads about the Thousand Sores and Hundred Holes Curse while studying in the Cloud Recesses, and recalls the descriptions well enough to immediately identify it when Jin Zixun reveals his chest.[1]

On the day of Jin Ling's one-month celebration, Jin Zixun brings over a hundred cultivators to ambush Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning on Qiongqi Path. Jin Zixun wrongly assumes that Wei Wuxian has cursed him due to their past conflicts, and intends to intimidate Wei Wuxian into removing the curse, or kill him if he refuses. Jin Zixun explains that although his uncle Jin Guangshan had consulted many medics and curse specialists, no one had been able to help him, and so he and his uncle had decided to ambush Wei Wuxian as the most likely culprit. In the end, the situation escalates, and both Jin Zixun and his cousin Jin Zixuan are accidentally killed by Wei Wuxian, leading to his own eventual demise.[1]

Thirteen years later, Lan Wangji notices backlash scars from the Thousand Sores and Hundred Holes Curse on Su She in the Guanyin Temple. Su She defiantly admitts to cursing Jin Zixun for his arrogance, but denies intending to harm Wei Wuxian or Jin Zixuan.[2]

Animation Divergence[]

Lan Wangji explains that he searched for Jin Zixun's body in the aftermath of Wei Wuxian's death to see if the Curse had finally vanished, but found that Jin Zixun's body had disappeared.[3]

Trivia[]

  • The curse's name (千疮百孔, Qiān Chuāng Bǎi Kǒng,) is actually an idiom for being afflicted with gaping wounds, being in extremely terrible condition, etc.
