The Stalk of Grass - Part Two is the thirty-fourth chapter of Mo Dao Zu Shi.
Synopsis []
Wei Wuxian orders the juniors to stay close to him, unsure what creature is behind the knocking of the bamboo pole. Lan Sizhui explains that the sound has been following them, and that they have only been in the area for fifteen minutes.
Wei Wuxian is alarmed, as he and Lan Wangji have been in Yi City for longer, yet the juniors passed them in the thick fog. Lan Jingyi worries that the fog is poisonous, and Jin Ling grouses that Fairy is not here due to an apparent spat with Little Apple.
Lan Wangji uses a Silence Spell on the juniors, noting the approach of Fierce Corpses. When Wei Wuxian attempts to control the corpses with a whistle, suddenly, the corpses attack.
With dread, he recalls that the only time corpses do not obey his command is when they are under the control of the Yin Tiger Tally.
In confusion, one of the juniors notes that the corpses seem to be breathing, to the derision of the other juniors. When Bichen dismantles the corpses, the juniors nearby cry out. Lan Jingyi explains that a rotten, bittersweet powder splashed into their mouths, and Wei Wuxian orders them to approach him.
He asks Lan Wangji to light the way with Bichen, only to realize that Bichen is about seven steps away, yet someone else is beside him. The person suddenly grabs Wei Wuxian's Spirit-Trapping Bag in an attempt to take his Qiankun Bag, revealing himself to be the Gravedigger from Yueyang.
While Lan Wangji battles the Gravedigger, the juniors announce that those who inhaled the powder are having difficulty standing. Wei Wuxian congratulates them on their first case of Corpse Poisoning, before assuring them that there is a cure so long as they follow his directions.
He directs the juniors to knock on the nearby houses, and eventually, a shopkeeper answers. Although her face is middle-aged, she has the stooped appearance of the elderly. She allows them inside, but tells them in a bizarre voice to light the oil lamps themselves if they wish.
Lan Sizhui lights an oil lamp, only to see a chamber crammed with people staring at them.[1]
