Supreme Courage - Part Two is the fifty-second chapter of Mo Dao Zu Shi.
Synopsis []
Lan Wangji insists that his leg is fine, but Wei Wuxian insists it is not. Suddenly, however, he is distracted by a group of girls.
The girl in the center is exceptionally pretty, and apparently has made perfume satchels to repel inclans for her friends. Hearing the girls call her "Mianmian," Wei Wuxian uses her nickname to ask for his own perfume satchel.
The girl is annoyed that he would use her nickname, and Wei Wuxian replies that he will not use it if she tells him her real name. He then tells her that his name is "Yuandao."
Lan Wangji calls Wei Wuxian's play on words, and Mianmian storms away. She does, however, throw a perfume satchel to him.
Lan Wangji expresses disapproval with a cold expression, and refuses Wei Wuxian's offer to carry him on his back. In response, Lan Wangji walks even faster, so Wei Wuxian scurries back to Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng scolds his brother, concerned that Wen Chao will use the disciples as flesh shields for whatever mysterious creature they are hunting this time.
Another disciple interrupts to explain that the Cloud Recesses were burned down last month. Wen Xu, the eldest son of Wen Ruohan, accused the Gusu Lan Clan’s leader of something and forced the Lan Clan to burn down their own residence. The leader of the Lan Clan was heavily injured, and is possibly dead.
The first place that Wen Xu ordered the Lan Clan to burn down was the Library Pavilion. When Lan Wangji refused, one of his legs was broken.
Jiang Cheng attempts to prevent Wei Wuxian from returning to carry Lan Wangji, when Wang Lingjiao approaches. Originally a maid of Wen Chao's principal wife, she has since become his mistress, and her family has been elevated to the Yingchuan Wang Clan.
Although she carries a Branding Iron as a weapon, the disciples cannot respect her position, even when she scolds them. However, just then, someone finds the entrance to the mysterious creature's cave.
Wen Chao drives the disciples to lead the way into the cave as flesh shields again. They eventually reach a pool underground. With no sign of any creature and with nowhere else to go, Wen Chao orders someone strung up and bled as bait.
Wang Lingjiao immediately suggests Mianmian. Having seen Wen Chao harass the girl before, she evidently views her as a rival. When Wen Chao hesitates, Wang Lingjiao uses her charms to convince him.
Mianmian flees, but wherever she goes, the disciples disperse. Fortunately, Jin Zixuan and Lan Wangji allow her to stand behind them. Wei Wuxian marvels that Jin Zixuan has "some nerve" after all.
Wen Chao orders the two to tie her up themselves, or he will kill every disciple from their clan. Suddenly, a trembling disciple from the Gusu Lan Clan attempts to pull Mianmian out, only to be struck by Lan Wangji.
Infuriated, Wen Chao orders Lan Wangji and Jin Zixuan killed. As they attempt to fight a larger number of armed disciples from the Qishan Wen Clan, Wen Chao confidently declares that "People like you really do deserve to be killed.”
Wei Wuxian answers:
“All those who oppress others and do evil relying on the power of their house should be killed. Not only that, they should be beheaded for tens of thousands to revile so that those to come would beware.”
Wen Chao erupts, but Wei Wuxian gleefully informs him that those are the words of his progenitor Wen Mao, written in the Quintessence of the Wens.
As Wei Wuxian continues to mock him, Wen Chao lunges outside Wen Zhuliu's range of protection. Wei Wuxian quickly seizes his sword and takes Wen Chao captive atop an islet in the pool.
Wen Chao orders the Wens to stop attacking Jin Zixuan and Lan Wangji. Wen Zhuliu lowers his hands once Wei Wuxian reminds him that Wen Ruohan will kill him if a drop of Wen Chao's blood is shed.
Just then, Wei Wuxian feels the ground shake. Jiang Cheng shouts that it is not an earthquake, and Wei Wuxian realizes that he is standing on the back of a very large creature's shell.[1]
