Synopsis[]
Wen Ning is stunned to hear that Lan Wangji is drunk. Wei Wuxian leads him back inside after telling Wen Ning to hide away and rest.
To his surprise, Lan Wangji uses his forehead ribbon to tie Wei Wuxian's hands in a dead knot. When he demands to be untied, Lan Wangji pretends not to understand, and leads him inside the inn.
The juniors, who are busy sneaking wine, are initially alarmed to see Lan Wangji. When Lan Sizhui asks where his forehead ribbon is, Lan Wangji shows them the knots around Wei Wuxian's wrists.
Wei Wuxian then claims that Lan Wangji has just shown him a new technique to bind a Fierce Corpse's hands before bringing it back to a clan, astonishing the juniors.
They depart upstairs, where Lan Wangji engages Wei Wuxian in a game of hide-and-seek. After Wei Wuxian playfully warns him that he will bite him if he watches him, Lan Wangji immediately walks into him. When he kisses his hand, Lan Wangji rushes off, confusing Wei Wuxian, until he demands that Wei Wuxian catch him again.
Wei Wuxian attempts to coax Lan Wangji into telling him how he recognized him, and as they lean closer, he kisses him. Wei Wuxian immediately apologizes, and Lan Wangji knocks himself unconscious. Wei Wuxian chastises himself for disrespecting Lan Wangji.
The next morning, Lan Wangji applies ointment to Wei Wuxian's wounds, and Wei Wuxian learns that Lan Wangji has no memory of the night before. He decides against telling him what transpired, worried that Lan Wangji would not be able to handle it.
They eat breakfast with the juniors, who intend to return to their clans. Before leaving, Wei Wuxian advises Jin Ling to listen to Jiang Cheng more and not to push himself. Jin Ling retorts that even Wei Wuxian became famous killing the Xuanwu of Slaughter around his age.
Jin Ling calls him a cutsleeve again, referencing the forehead ribbon and its meaning, though he then declines to tell Wei Wuxian its meaning. After Jin Ling asks if he is really Wei Wuxian, Wei Wuxian replies by asking if they are similar, and Jin Ling promptly calls Fairy to chase him away.
The juniors depart and invite each other to visit their clans, including the Cloud Recesses and another clan in Pingzhou.
Lan Wangji declares their intent to consult with Lan Xichen in Tanzhou, and Lan Jingyi eagerly asks to come along so that they may see the famed garden of the Damsel of Annual Blossoms.
After arriving, they find that garden has been desolate for a while. Lan Wangji leaves to patrol the area, and Wei Wuxian asks the meaning of the Gusu Lan Clan's forehead ribbon.
Lan Sizhui explains that Lan An decreed that only spouses can touch each other's forehead ribbon, flabbergasting Wei Wuxian.
Wei Wuxian recalls the Qishan Wen Clan's grand Discussion Conference as a youth. While practicing for the archery competition, Wei wuxian noticed Lan Wangji and teased him that his forehead ribbon was crooked, although it was not.
However, later during the competition, Wei Wuxian noticed that his forehead ribbon actually was crooked. When he attempted to fix it for him, he accidentally pulled it off. In the aftermath, Lan Wangji was so distressed that he left the competition. Jiang Cheng scolds him while Wei Wuxian puzzles over this.
Back in the present, a headless Fierce Corpse appears behind Wei Wuxian, who realizes that all of the severed body parts have pulled themselves back together.[1]
