Sandu: The Three Poisons - Part Five is the sixtieth chapter of Mo Dao Zu Shi.
Synopsis []
Wen Ning sneaks Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng into the Yiling Supervision Office, only for them to be discovered at once by his elder sister, Wen Qing.
Wei Wuxian is stunned, as Wen Qing is well-known for being a favorite of Wen Ruohan's. Although she is only the daughter of his cousin, she is exceptionally skilled in medicine and liberal arts.
Wen Qing tells the cultivators outside that she was only scolding her returning brother before leading them away.
Wen Ning leaves to fetch medicine when Jiang Cheng awakens.
Unfortunately, Jiang Cheng reveals that his Golden Core has been melted by Wen Zhuliu. Yu Ziyuan and Jiang Fengmian also had their golden cores melted, forever losing their spiritual powers, before being killed.
In despair, Jiang Cheng rants and raves that there was no point to save him, as his life is worthless without cultivation. Wen Ning returns, and the traumatized Jiang Cheng begins shouting at Wei Wuxian to kill him, before accusing his brother of walking into a trap.
Wen Qing enters to send a needle into Jiang Cheng's forehead, knocking him unconscious before he alerts anyone.
She scolds her brother for rescuing them, insisting that if Wen Chao discovers them, both and and Wen Ning will take the fall. When Wen Ning protests, she maintains that the actions of the Qishan Wen Clan do not reflect their actions.
Wei Wuxian reflects that nobody had ever heard of any lives lost by Wen Qing’s hands, and that she was known to put in a few good words for people in front of Wen Ruohan. Some people even wished for her to take over the Wen Clan.
Despite the risk, Wen Qing allows them to stay for several days while treating Jiang Cheng. The needle remains in his forehead to prevent him from awakening.
When the needle is removed, Jiang Cheng refuses to eat or drink. He hopes to become a ferocious ghost when he dies, but Wei Wuxian reminds him that as the child of a clan leader, he has undergone too many Soul-Calming Ceremonies for that to be possible.
Wei Wuxian cooks a meal, and tells Jiang Cheng that he knows a way to recover his golden core. He will only tell him, however, if Jiang Cheng agrees to eat again.
The plan is to find the immortal Baoshan Sanren, his mother's teacher, as Wei Wuxian has a few fragments of memory that lead to the mountain she lives on.
They set out a few days later to a mountain in Yiling. Jiang Cheng ventures up the mountain alone, instructed to refer to himself as "Wei Wuxian, the son of Cangse Sanren" and never to take off his blindfold.
One week later, Wei Wuxian enters a tea shop at the base of the mountain while waiting for Jiang Cheng. Although he immediately realizes that something is wrong, he is captured by one strike from Wen Zhuliu.
Wen Chao and Wang Lingjiao appear, declaring their intent to cut off his hand and torture him. Knowing that he will die, Wei Wuxian threatens to become a ferocious ghost and haunt them afterwards.
Wen Chao feels afraid for a moment, realizing that as a servant's son, Wei Wuxian has not undergone any soul-calming ceremonies.
He decides to have Wei Wuxian savagely beaten instead, before flying him to the Burial Mounds. The Burial Mounds are essentially a mountain of corpses from an old battleground, and no clan has been able to purge it, not even the Wens. Nor has anyone escaped it alive.
With a grotesque grin, Wen Chao shoves Wei Wuxian, sending him falling into the Burial Mounds below.[1]
