Sandu: The Three Poisons - Part Four is the fifty-ninth chapter of Mo Dao Zu Shi.

Synopsis []

Wei Wuxian fears that the boy has seen himself and Jiang Cheng, but just then, they overhear Wen Chao attempting to comfort a crying Wang Lingjiao.

Wang Lingjiao expresses how close she came to dying at the hands of "that bitch" Yu Ziyuan, before attempting to convince Wen Chao to punish Wen Zhuliu for not protecting her well enough. Wen Chao internally dismisses the idea of punishing a talent who has stopped many assassination attempts against him for a mere woman.

Wang Lingjiao continues to complain that Wen Zhuliu also stopped her from slapping Yu Ziyuan's corpse. Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian break down in tears, and Wei Wuxian wonders if Jiang Fengmian got to say any last words to her.

Wen Chao explains that Wen Zhuliu simply has an odd personality, preferring 'death over humiliation, and that Wen Zhuliu was the one who killed Yu Ziyuan anyways.

Wang Lingjiao scorns Yu Ziyuan for forcing Jiang Fengmian to marry her, to Wen Chao's surprise. As Wen Chao sees that Yu Ziyuan is pretty, he does not understand why Jiang Fengmian would not like her. Wang Lingjiao explains that Madame Yu was too aggressive, and Wen Chao praises "Jiaojiao" for her gentle obedience and devotion only to him.

Wen Chao demands that the name of Lotus Pier be changed, and declares his intent to hold a celebration.

Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng flee, only for Jiang Cheng to turn around and attempt to return for his parents' bodies. Wei Wuxian attempts to stop him, and Jiang Cheng turns his grief and anger on Wei Wuxian.

Strangling him, he shouts over and over that Wei Wuxian should not have saved Lan Wangji and Jin Zixuan. Finally, he releases his brother, sobbing that he wants his parents.

The next day, the two set off for the Meishan Yu Clan to find Jiang Yanli. Eventually, they grow weak with hunger, and Wei Wuxian tells Jiang Cheng to stay put while he ventures into a market for food.

When he returns, Jiang Cheng is gone.

In a panic, Wei Wuxian learns from a cobbler that Jiang Cheng left not long after himself. Wei Wuxian deduces that Jiang Cheng has decided to return to Lotus Pier for his parents' bodies again, but as he hurries back, he does not find his brother.

Wei Wuxian creeps inside Lotus Pier, still uncertain of Jiang Cheng's whereabouts, and takes the first boy he sees captive.

He turns the boy around to recognize him as the young master from earlier. The boy introduces himself as Wen Ning and reminds Wei Wuxian that they have met before, at the Qishan Wen Clan's grand Discussion Conference.

Wen Ning promises that he and the disciples under his command only arrived after the massacre. He says that he can free Jiang Cheng, who is held captive inside, and retrieve the bodies of Yu Ziyuan and Jiang Fengmian.

Wei Wuxian knows that he has little choice but to trust him. True to his word, Wen Ning returns with Jiang Cheng's heavily beaten and unconscious body, as well as Zidian. Wei Wuxian is horrified to see that Wen Chao used the Yunmeng Jiang Clan's Discipline Whip on his brother's chest.

Wen Ning takes them away by ship to Yiling, and Wei Wuxian recalls the time he met Wen Ning. Just before the archery competition in the Discussion Conference, he marveled at the archery skills of a young Wen disciple. However, when he cheered for him, the young man ran away.

At the archery competition, Wen Chao informed the Wen Clan that spots were limited.

When Wen Ning finally advocated for himself to compete, several other Wens responded with derision. Wei Wuxian intervened, insisting that Wen Ning truly was a good shot. Wen Chao said that if Wen Ning could shoot a target right then and there, he could take the final spot.

Wen Ning, however, was too nervous to shoot straight, and missed the target. He ran off in embarrassment, but Wei Wuxian chased after. Wen Ning apologized for causing him to lose face, but Wei Wuxian merely encouraged him to have more confidence. He claims that only three people in the cultivation world he knew had better aim than Wen Ning.

Jiang Cheng arrived, and scuffled briefly with Wei Wuxian when he said that Wen Ning has better aim than him. Wei Wuxian then gave Wen Ning a few pointers on perfecting his skill, before leaving to join the archery competition.[1]
