Rebirth is the second chapter of Mo Dao Zu Shi.
Synopsis[]
Wei Wuxian is awoken by a kick. A young master shouts at him for telling his parents that he stole from him, before smashing all of his belongings. The young master then departs, telling the servants to watch Wei Wuxian carefully.
With the aid of a mirror, Wei Wuxian realizes that he is in another person's body. After examining the circular array beneath him, he deduces that he has not possessed a body, but been offered one via the Sacrificial Ritual he once studied. In accordance with the ritual, his arms possess five cuts that will not heal until he fulfills the final wish of the body's original owner. If he fails to fulfill their wish, he faces the annihilation of his spirit.
Wei Wuxian discovers hastily scribbled notes. These notes reveal that he has been dead for thirteen years, and he is now in the body of a young man named Mo Xuanyu who lives in Mo Village. Mo Xuanyu explains his history – born the bastard son of a servant's daughter and a wealthy clan leader, he was taken in by his father's clan at the age of fourteen. However, he was eventually sent home in disgrace after harassing another man. His mother died shortly after her son returned home as a known homosexual, and Mo Xuanyu descended into lunacy, in part due to the continual abuse by his remaining family.
Wei Wuxian realizes that, in all likelihood, Mo Xuanyu's final wish is for him to wipe out the entire Mo family. He silently thinks that Mo Xuanyu has chosen the wrong person for the task.[1]

Author's Note[]
Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's end-of-chapter note reads:[2]
This isn’t a family drama. Though this chapter does feel like one.
He’s going to unleash himself and go crazy in the next chapter, so hopefully everyone won’t turn your backs on him _(:з)∠)_
