Qiongqi Path (穷奇道, Qióngqí Dào) is an ancient path that runs through a valley.
History[]
Time of Clan Founders[]
According to legend, Qiongqi Path is where the founder of the Qishan Wen Clan, Wen Mao, rose to fame in just one battle. Hundreds of years before the novel's beginning, he fought a divine beast for eighty-one days and ultimately claimed its life. The divine beast was the Qiongqi, a beast of chaos known to punish the good and encourage the evil, devouring the loyal and the righteous while awarding the malicious. Of course, whether the legend was actually true or exaggerated was impossible to determine.[1]
Aftermath of the Sunshot Campaign[]
Hundreds of years later, the valley has turned from a rift of danger to a scenery of praise and tourism. Originally, all of the tall walls of the valley were carved with life story of Wen Mao. After the Sunshot Campaign, Qiongqi Path is taken by the Lanling Jin Clan, and the reliefs are chiseled down and remade to emphasize the gallantry of the Lanling Jin Clan.[1]
This large-scale undertaking requires many laborers, so the Lanling Jin Clan forces many of the Qishan Wen Clan's remnants to become laborers. This leads to the death of Wen Ning and the torment of Granny Wen, Wen Yuan, and Uncle Four.[1]
When Wen Qing pleads for Wei Wuxian's help, he kills several overseers for their cruelty[1] and frees the fifty or so[2] Wen prisoners to live under his protection on the Burial Mounds. [1]
Deaths of Jin Zixuan and Jin Zixun[]
Wei Wuxian is on his way to the one-month celebration for his newborn nephew Jin Ling when Jin Zixun ambushes him at Qiongqi Path, believing Wei Wuxian responsible for the Thousand Sores and Hundred Holes Curse inflicted upon him. Although Wei Wuxian tried to insist he had not cast the curse, Jin Zixun did not believe him and declared his intent to kill Wei Wuxian to free himself from the curse. Wei Wuxian attempts to command any nearby Fierce Corpses, but Jin Zixun reveals that he had cleared out all of the bodies to prepare for the ambush. Wei Wuxian then uses Wen Ning to fight off the legions of cultivators Jin Zixun had brought.[3]
As Wei Wuxian faces off against Jin Zixun, Jin Zixuan arrives with the intention of smoothing the situation over. Unfortunately, while he and Wei Wuxian exchange words, Jin Zixuan lunges at Wei Wuxian. Following Wei Wuxian's subconscious instinctive response, Wen Ning kills Jin Zixuan, to Wei Wuxian's horror and despair. Wen Ning also kills Jin Zixun, along with many others.[3][4]
