Little Apple (小苹果, Xiǎo Píngguǒ) is the donkey that Wei Wuxian rides as he departs Mo Village at the beginning of the novel.
Personality[]
Little Apple is a stubborn creature with a picky appetite, as it refuses to eat grass that has a streak of yellow. It exclusively eats fresh grass with fresh dewdrops. As a mount, it will only move if fed apples, leading Wei Wuxian to name it "Little Apple."[1]
History[]
After being taken from Mo Village as Wei Wuxian's mount, Little Apple finds itself taken the Cloud Recesses. Little Apple then creates a disturbance, crying because it cannot eat grass due to the number of rabbits surrounding it.[2]
After Wei Wuxian departs with Lan Wangji, Little Apple remains behind in the Cloud Recesses and makes so much noise that the Seniors ask the junior cultivators to get rid of it.[3]
On the road to Yi City, Little Apple is bitten by Jin Ling's dog Fairy. It kicks Fairy in retaliation, so both animals end up injured and left behind when the junior cultivators investigate Yi City. When Jin Ling criticizes Little Apple’s name, Lan Jingyi retaliates by calling Fairy a fat dog.[4]
During an investigation, when Lan Sizhui wonders if the apples left behind by a Fierce Corpse are poisonous, Wei Wuxian answers that they cannot be, because he had already fed Little Apple half a dozen.[5]
Later, Wei Wuxian wins a stuffed donkey that resembles Little Apple from a ring toss game in Yunmeng.[6]
