Jin Rusong (金如松, Jīn Rúsōng) is the only son of Jin Guangyao and Qin Su. He is murdered[1] when he is at most seven years old.[2][3]
Appearance[]
His appearance is not described.
Personality[]
Jin Rusong is described as a good child who was dearly loved by his parents.[1]
History[]
Jin Rusong is conceived before Jin Guangyao and Qin Su's wedding and before his parents know that they are half-siblings.[4]
When Jin Rusong is a few years old,[3] his father Jin Guangyao moves forward with his plan to build the watchtowers. A number of clans oppose his plan, and after one of the opposing clan leaders loses an argument, he kills Jin Rusong in a murderous rage. In revenge, Jin Guangyao tears down his entire clan.[1]
After Qin Su discovers that they are half-siblings, Jin Guangyao denies her suspicions that he killed their son, though he adds that even if Jin Rusong had not been murdered, he would have had to die to keep their secret, implying that Jin Rusong was disabled.[1][3] Later, Jin Guangyao neither denies nor confirms Lan Xichen's belief that he had orchestrated the murder.[4]
Once the cultivation world discovers Jin Guangyao and Qin Su's relationship, they speculate that Jin Guangyao actually killed his son. Clan Leader Yao reasons that Jin Rusong likely had learning disabilities due to his parents' incest. To prevent questions about Jin Guangyao and Qin Su's relationship, as well as more mockery of Jin Guangyao's origins, Clan Leader Yao postulates that Jin Guangyao killed Jin Rusong and used the opportunity to frame his political opponent.[3]
After being mortally wounded at the Guanyin Temple, Jin Guangyao lists Jin Rusong among the people he had killed. This list, however, also includes Qin Su, who had taken her own life after realizing she had married her brother. Whether Jin Guangyao actually murdered Jin Rusong, or felt he had caused his death indirectly, is therefore unknown.[5]
Animation Divergence[]
In the Animation, Jin Rusong's death is explicitly stated in Bicao's letter to have been a plot, implying that Jin Guangyao deliberately murdered him.[6] Jin Guangyao elaborates on this in the Guanyin Temple, claiming he did so to protect his son from suffering society's judgment.[6]
Audio Drama Divergence[]
In the Audio Drama, Lan Wangji implies that much of what was said about who killed Jin Rusong death is hearsay even before the truth of his parentage comes to light.[7]
Trivia[]
- Although Jin Rusong would have had a much higher chance of significant birth defects than people with unrelated parents, he would have had a 3:1 chance of experiencing no significant issues if his parents were full siblings. That his parents were half-siblings further decreases the odds of significant defects.[8]
- His given name combines the character 如 (rú) with 松 (sōng).
