Jade Tokens (玉牌, Yù Pái) are pieces of jade used by the Gusu Lan Clan as entry/exit passes for the Cloud Recesses.

Description

Lan Wangji's jade token is white in color.

Use

The jade tokens function as entry and exit passes for the Cloud Recesses, and some of the elders' tokens are capable of alerting their user of an intruder's presence.

In addition, the jade tokens allow for the withdrawal of money from the Cloud Recesses.

History

Wei Wuxian remembers having a jade pass as a student in the Cloud Recesses. When he is taken back after his resurrection into the body of Mo Xuanyu, Wei Wuxian attempts to steal a jade token from a Lan Clan cultivator so that he can escape. The person whom he tries to steal from is Lan Wangji, who immediately attacks him with Bichen. After he is taken back to the Jingshi, Wei Wuxian again tries to steal the jade token while Lan Wangji sleeps, only to suffer a Body-Locking Spell.

At some point, Lan Xichen gives Jin Guangyao a jade pass by so that he can freely come and go in the Cloud Recesses. Wei Wuxian speculates that he uses his jade token to access the Room of Forbidden Books and steal a section from the Collection of Spirit Turmoil. When investigating Jin Guanyao's possible murder of Nie Mingjue, Lan Xichen revokes his entry privileges. Jin Guangyao comes to the Cloud Recesses to return his jade token, though Lan Xichen maintains that it belongs to him.
