The Impure Realm (不净世, Bùjìng Shì) is the residence of the Qinghe Nie Clan.

Description[]

The outside school grounds are where Nie Mingjue attempts to train a reluctant Nie Huaisang.

Nie Huaisang's room is filled with collections of fans, paintings, and porcelain.[1]

History[]

During Nie Mingjue's time as Clan Leader, his sworn brothers Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao often visit the Impure Realm to play Purification Tone to soothe his growing saber spirit. In fact, Lan Xichen fatefully offers to teach Jin Guangyao the song while in the Impure Realm.[1] One day, under the influence of his growing saber spirit, Nie Mingjue orders his servants to empty Nie Huaisang's room of his art. Despite Jin Guangyao's attempts to ease the situation, the items are burned in a large fire on the school grounds.[1]

Death of Nie Mingjue[]

The Qingje Nie Clan hosts a martial arts conference less than two months after the burning incident. During the conference, Nie Mingjue overhears Jin Guangyao confess his fears over Nie Mingjue to Lan Xichen, and in a rage, attempts to kill his younger sworn brother. Nie Mingjue then experiences a qi deviation. He slaughters several people he hallucinates to be Jin Guangyao before recognizing Nie Huaisang in the middle of a long corridor.[2]

Nie Mingjue collapses, and finally manages to see the real Jin Guangyao watching him at the end of the corridor. Although Jin Guangyao weeps, Nie Mingjue feels that the Sparks Amidst Snow on his chest is smiling in place of him just before he passes away.[2]

Web Series Divergence[]

In the Web Series, the Impure Realm and Qinghe are overtaken by the Qishan Wen Clan before the launch of the Sunshot Campaign, and retaken during the war.[3] In the aftermath of its return to Qinghe Nie hands, plans and discussions for the war are held at the residence.[4]

There is a hall entitle "Misty Mountain Hall" in the Web Series' version of the Impure Realm.[4]

Trivia[]

  • The original fan translation by Exiled Rebels translated the residence name as "Unclean Realm."[1]
  • The name may be a reference to the Patikulamanasikara (不净观, Bùjìng Guān, lit. "impure view"), a Buddhist meditation to overcome mortal desires.[5]
