Hidden Edge - Part Four is the one-hundred and tenth chapter of Mo Dao Zu Shi.

Synopsis []

Wei Wuxian explains that the coffin likely held Meng Shi, Jin Guangyao's mother. He came to retrieve her before traveling to Dongying.

Wei Wuxian then asks Nie Huaisang what he thinks the person has done with the corpse. Nie Huaisang replies that he does not know, but adds that since the person hates Jin Guangyao, "they’d probably be entirely merciless towards something he cherishes more than his life."

Wei WUxian eyes Nie Huaisang, suggesting that perhaps the person cut apart Meng Shi's body and scattered its pieces, like Nie Mingjue. Nie Huaisang jumps and declares that "too much." Wei Wuxian drops the subject, as he has no proof of his suspicions.

Lan Xichen laments with frustration that he does not know just what his friend intended. Wei Wuxian instructs Nie Huaisang that the coffin must be resealed and buried deep for at least a hundred years.

Suddenly, Fairy leaps into the temple. Lan Wangji places himself in front of the terrified Wei Wuxian.

Cultivators pour into the temple, led by Lan Qiren and the right-hand man of the Yunmeng Jiang Clan. Lan Qiren is enraged to see Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji standing so close together, but his shout is interrupted by the juniors, who rush over to Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji.

Lan Sizhui exclaims with relief to see them unharmed, and when Lan Jingyi declares his confidence in Hanguang-Jun, Lan Sizhui points out that he was the one fretting along the way. Lan Sizhui then spots Wen Ning and pulls him over to them.

It turns out that Fairy ran back to a nearby subsidiary clan of the Yunmeng Jiang Clan, and that clan's leader recognized the dog. He brought Fairy to Lotus Pier, arriving at the same time the Gusu Lan Clan was departing. Fairy then tore Lan Sizhui's robe to imitate the forehead ribbon, indicating that a member of the Gusu Lan Clan was in danger, and a search began.

Noticing Wei Wuxian's fear, Jin Ling sends Fairy out of the temple. Meanwhile, Lan Sizhui suddenly asks to see Chenqing.

Wei Wuxian hands it to him, and when he returns it, Wei Wuxian tells Jiang Cheng that he will be keeping it. Jiang Cheng replies that it was his in the first place. He hesitates, as if he wants to say more, but Wei Wuxian has already turned back to Lan Wangji.

Lan Qiren rages at Lan Xichen, whom he has never seen so distressed before. Lan Xichen begs his uncle not to ask him any questions, as he does not want to talk. Between Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji, Lan Qiren feels that both of his previously-perfect nephews give him much worry.

As several clan leaders volunteer to handle the coffin, they also notice the Guanyin statue's resemblance to Jin Guangyao. Clan Leader Yao declares that Jin Guangyao obviously wished to declare himself a god.

Wei Wuxian reflects that the statue was more likely built to honor Meng Shi, who was seen as the lowest of prostitutes, to honor her with the worship of tens of thousands. But he recognizes that no one will believe him if he suggests this.

Watching the coffin carried out, Nie Huaisang picks up Jin Guangyao's fallen hat before sauntering outside.

Upon Fairy's barks, Jin Ling suddenly recalls how Jin Guangyao gave him Fairy. When he was young, he fought with several disciples and threw a tantrum in his room. Jin Guangyao entered, only for Jin Ling to smash a vase at his feet. His uncle then left, feigning fear.

The next day, Jin Guangyao knocked on his door. Jin Ling opened it after hearing a puppy's barks. Jin Guangyao said that he had found the puppy and hoped that Jin Ling would give it a name.

Recalling his uncle's smile, Jin Ling begins to cry, unable to believe that he faked it. He realizes that between Wen Ning, Wei Wuxian, and Jin Guangyao, he cannot hate or blame anyone.

Clan Leader Yao scolds him for his tears, calling them "the kindness of the fairer sex." He admonished Jin Ling that Jin Guangyao does not deserve tears, and that he must know right from wrong.

Jin Ling roars at Clan Leader Yao, telling him to shut up. Clan Leader Yao leaves in a huff.

Lan Qiren, meanwhile, realizes that Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian have absconded with Little Apple. Lan Jingyi is surprised that Lan Sizhui has left as well.

Jin Ling asks Jiang Cheng how he could just let them go, and Jiang Cheng asks sarcastically if he should have invited them for dinner. Jin Ling warns his uncle that his attitude is precisely why they left.

Jiang Cheng replies that everyone is returning to their own clan. When Jin Ling asks what he wanted to say to Wei Wuxian, he denies that he had anything to say.

To himself, however, he recalls that he was not caught by the Qishan Wen Clan because he foolishly returned to Lotus Pier for his parents' bodies. He was caught because he saw the Wens searching the market while Wei Wuxian was purchasing food. Jiang Cheng ran out to distract them to save his shixiong's life.

But much like how the past Wei Wuxian could not bear to reveal the truth of his Golden Core, Jiang Cheng cannot bear to say anything either.[1]
