Hidden Edge - Part Two is the one-hundred and eighth chapter of Mo Dao Zu Shi.
Synopsis []
Su She's sword breaks, and Nie Mingjue lands a punch directly through his chest, killing him instantly. Tears appear in Jin Guangyao's eyes as he crouches behind Lan Xichen.
Nie Mingjue turns to Jin Guangyao, and Lan Xichen readies Shuoyue. Although Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji speed up their melodies, the fact that Wei Wuxian's whistle has already been overcome once renders Nie Mingjue significantly harder to subdue.
Suddenly, Jiang Cheng calls out Wei Wuxian's name. He throws Chenqing to him, revealing that he kept the flute all this time.
With his spiritual weapon in hand, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji duet to lure Nie Mingjue back into the coffin. Wei Wuxian uses his own blood to paint a Suppression Array to trap the howling Nie Mingjue inside.
Wei Wuxian hops off the coffin into Lan Wangji's arms, while Nie Huaisang begins to groan in pain again. Although Lan Xichen reassures Nie Huaisang that his injury is not severe, Nie Huaisang continues to complain in apparent agony. Lan Xichen gives him pain medicine before turning to Jin Guangyao.
Lan Xichen insists on treating him, citing that they need many answers and Jin Guangyao may die otherwise.
Wei Wuxian advises Lan Xichen to take precautions by silencing Jin Guangyao. Lan Xichen agrees, but before he does, warns "Clan Leader Jin" that if he tries anything else, Lan Xichen will not hesitate to kill him. Jin Guangyao thanks him before he is silenced.
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji approach the corner where Wen Ning still lies atop Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling. Wei Wuxian is worried by the hideous wound, but Wen Ning maintains that he does not need to look nice.
Back besides Jin Guangyao, Lan Xichen reneges on his intention to avoid giving Jin Guangyao pain medication. He turns to ask Nie Huaisang for the pills, but just then, Nie Huaisang screams for him to look out behind him.
Without a second glance, Lan Xichen sends Shuoyue through Jin Guangyao's chest.
In shock, Jin Guangyao summons the strength to stand. He breaks the Silence Spell by force to insist that he made no movements at all, and sarcastically congratulates Nie Huaisang on his acting abilities.
He tries to step forward towards Nie Huaisang, but Lan Xichen exclaims for him not to move, unable to deliver a fatal blow or pull the sword out rashly.
Nie Huaisang insists he did see Jin Guangyao move, and Jin Guangyao tries to lunge again, causing the sword to sink deeper into his chest. Lan Xichen shouts for him not to move, and when Jin Guangyao sees the doubt in his eyes, he laughs in anger.
“Lan Xichen! In this life, I’ve lied countless times, killed countless times. Like you said, I killed my father, my brother, my wife, my son, my teacher, my friend — of all the evil in the world, what haven’t I done?! But I’ve never even thought of harming you!”
He continues to explain that he helped Lan Xichen hide after the burning of the Cloud Recesses, helped rebuild the Cloud Recesses, and has supported the Gusu Lan Clan with the exception of sealing Lan Xichen's powers this time.
Jin Guangyao accuses Lan Xichen of being a intolerant as Nie Mingjue – not believing he deserved to live.
Jin Guangyao pulls the sword from his chest. Jiang Cheng shouts that he is trying to escape, but when Lan Xichen grabs him, Wei Wuxian realizes the truth: he is only trying to destroy the seal on the coffin.
Nie Mingjue breaks out, catching Jin Guangyao by the neck. Lan Wangji sends Bichen to save his brother, but the sword has already failed to stop Nie Mingjue before.
Just then, Jin Guangyao strikes Lan Xichen in the chest, shoving him away.
Jin Guangyao is dangled like a rag doll above Nie Mingjue. His last words are "Fuck you, Nie Mingjue?! You think I'd be scared of you?"
Nie Mingjue promptly breaks his neck, and the shivering Jin Ling covers his eyes and ears.[1]
