Ghosts (鬼, Guǐ) are souls of the dead that do not have a corporeal form.
Description[]
According to Wei Wuxian, the reason ghosts frighten people is that once a person's consciousness fades with fear, their spirit surges, giving the ghost an easy opportunity to suck out their yang energy.[1]
They seem capable of feeling pain even after death, as an old ghost on Dafan Mountain complained about the pain from the mortal wound it had once received on its head.[2]
They can be destroyed with certain Talismans.[3]
Ghosts are different from spirits. Ghosts come from the souls of dead humans whereas spirits come from living animals or plants, or even objects like the saber spirits of the Nie Clan.[4]
History[]
Ghosts appear widely throughout the novel. As a Demonic Cultivator, Wei Wuxian once pranked Lan Wangji by sending ghosts to give him flowers.[4]
On Dafan Mountain, Wei Wuxian uses a gluttonous ghost to sit on Jin Ling during their first encounter.[5] Later, he also discovers an old ghost wandering about after its tomb was unearthed during a landslide.[2]
The ghost of A-Qing appears in an attempt save the junior disciples during their investigation of Yi City.[6] She later assists Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian in their battle against Xue Yang.[3]
Web Series Divergence[]
The Web Series states that ghosts do not exist.[7]
