Evocation (招魂, Zhāohún) is a song that can be played on the guqin or flute. It is used to summon spirits to the middle of an array drawn at the player's location.

Description[]

Evocation is described as a sinister, questioning melody. The Chinese words zhāohún (招魂) literally mean "to provoke or beckon a soul or spirit." Evocation, therefore, is a piece of music that requires a corpse, part of a corpse, or a personal belonging to summon the spirit to the location of the person playing the song.[1]

Evocation will fail if the soul was cut apart or otherwise scattered.[1]

Use[]

Lan Wangji, Lan Qiren, and other members of the Gusu Lan Clan played Evocation in the Cloud Recesses's Mingshi in an attempt to call the spirit of the Demonic Left Arm retrieved from Mo Village.[1]

After the initial failure of Evocation resulted in the collapse of all clan members present in the room except for Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian used his bamboo flute to duet with Lan Wangji. However, the song failed to summon the spirit, because the soul had been scattered along with the body. In the end, Rest was able to subdue the arm.[1]
