The Evil-Supressing Portraits of the Yiling Patriarch (夷陵老祖镇恶像, Yílíng Lǎozǔ Zhèn È Xiàng) are hideous depictions of Wei Wuxian, sold on the streets of Qinghe by a charlatan cultivator.[1]
Description[]
The portraits depict a man with a green face, buckteeth, protruding eyes and bulging muscles. The charlatan claims that the evil energy in the portraits will ward off other evil beings, like using poison to cure poison.[1]
These portraits are priced at five coins each, or three for ten coins. They are supposedly able to ward off evil when stuck to the front door, the main hall and near the bed.[1]
Use[]
Wei Wuxian is initially offended that he was drawn so ugly, since he was a handsome man in his first lifetime. At his offense, the charlatan then asks him if he has actually seen Wei Wuxian.
Soon after, the charlatan's stall is kicked over by Jin Ling for daring to mention the name of Wei Wuxian. When Wei Wuxian intervenes, Jin Ling responds by whistling for Fairy to chase Wei Wuxian. The prince of a dog sends Wei Wuxian fleeing behind Lan Wangji for safety. Fortunately, the sight of Lan Wangji is enough to scare off both Jin Ling and Fairy. To thank them for their assistance in chasing off Jin Ling, the charlatan then offers Wei Wuxian his portraits of the Yiling Patriarch for free, but Wei Wuxian declines. Wei Wuxian tells the charlatan that if he really wants to thank them, he should draw the Yiling Patriarch to be better looking.[1]
Trivia[]
- Wei Wuxian buys some cosmetics from the charlatan who attempts to sell him the portraits. When the man asked if the makeup is for his wife, Wei Wuxian replies that it was for himself.[1] He later gives these cosmetics to some women in exchange for directions to Yi City.[2]
