The thirty-third episode of the Web Series premiered on July 31, 2019.
Synopsis[]
As the battle rages, a sobbing Jiang Cheng clings to Jiang Yanli's body. After killing the archer's brother, Wei Wuxian is blamed for his Shijie's death by Clan Leader Yao.
Mad with grief, Wei Wuxian unleashes the Yin Tiger Tally upon Nightless City. He retreats to a cliff and laughs with despair at the clan leaders who scramble to catch the Yin Metal as it falls amongst them.
Lan Wangji catches Wei Wuxian's wrist just as he attempts to fall from the cliff. As he clutches him, Jiang Cheng approaches with Sandu outstretched. Although he stabs towards his brother, he ultimately strikes the side of the cliff instead. Wei Wuxian, however, seizes the chance to tear his wrist from Lan Wangji's grasp and fall to his supposed death.
Sixteen years later, Wei Wuxian awakens in the Jingshi, Lan Wangji's personal quarters in the Cloud Recesses. He recalls his words to Jin Ling on Dafan Mountain, the still-alive Wen Ning, and his encounter with Jiang Cheng.
As Lan Wangji plays his guqin, Wei Wuxian wonders how he is still alive. Lan Wangji says that Jiang Cheng found bones of the dead where Wei Wuxian fell, and he searched three years later, but could not even find the bones. He does not explain why he waited three years.
Wei Wuxian explores the rebuilt Cloud Recesses again, recalling his youth studying here. He also marvels that Lan Wangji has kept many rabbits around, despite saying that he disliked them before.
He happens across the Cold Springs to see Lan Wangji bathing, and notices with shock hundreds of whip scars on his back. Wei Wuxian demands to know how he received the scars, only to be interrupted by the juniors, who say that something has happened during the elders' use of Evocation to interrogate a spirit.
Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian rush to the Mingshi to see Lan Sizhui and Lan Jingyi, who explain that the spirit is the very Sword Spirit that killed the Mo family in Mo Village.
Entering the Mingshi, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji duet to calm the spirit. The injured Lan Qiren awakens due to Wei Wuxian's bad playing. He commands him to stop before collapsing again.
Examining the blade, they conclude that the Yin Tiger Tally has somehow infected the sword.
Acupuncture and elixirs all fail to treat the elders. Lan Sizhui confesses his guilt to Wei Wuxian, convinced that the sword spirit was aiming for them. He cites that the Spirit-Attraction Flags did not have a large radius of attraction, or blood would have been shed far earlier. His conclusion is that someone deliberately placed the sword there, a conclusion with which Wei Wuxian agrees.
Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian suspect that Xue Yang must have attempted to create another Yin Tiger Tally, meaning there are at least five pieces of Yin Metal. They speculate that whomever convinced Mo Xuanyu to summon Wei Wuxian is also the person who affected the Heavenly Maiden, but they do not know his motivations.
Back in the Mingshi, Lan Wangji decides to trace the Sword Spirit to its source. They decide to start in the northwest direction, the direction the sword points. Before leaving with Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji tells Lan Sizhui to look after the wounded.
Wei Wuxian jokes that he is relieved not to follow all of the Gusu Lan Clan's rules anymore. Sometime later, the two arrive in Qinghe. Wei Wuxian is offended when a charlatan cultivator attempts to sell him hideous Evil-Suppressing Portraits of the Yiling Patriarch. He insists that Wei Wuxian was good-looking, and suddenly, Jin Ling arrives to kick the cultivator to the ground.
Jin Ling declares that he will kick anyone who mentions Wei Wuxian in front of him. Wei Wuxian laments that Jin Ling learned all of Jiang Cheng and Jin Zixuan's faults, yet none of Jiang Yanli's strengths. He attempts to speak with him, but flees in terror once Jin Ling summons his dog Fairy.[1]

Divergence from the Novel[]
In the novel, Wei Wuxian survives the Bloodbath of Nightless City due to the aid of Lan Wangji, but as he possesses no memory of the event, still believes that Lan Wangji despises him.[2]
Wei Wuxian and the rest of the Wen remnants die several months later during the First Siege of the Burial Mounds, during which Wei Wuxian's body is torn to pieces from spiritual backlash, and the Wens' bodies tossed into the Blood Pool. Wei Wuxian is thus definitively dead in the novel.[3][4]
Although Lan Wangji does recognize Wei Wuxian at Dafan Mountain, he does not acknowledge his identity until later in Qinghe.[5] As a result, Wei Wuxian believes his identity unknown, and encounters Lan Wangji in the Cold Springs in an attempt to steal a Jade Token of passage to escape.[6]
There were only thirty-three scars on Lan Wangji's back, as in the the novel, he was whipped with the Discipline Whip, a special punishment that typically only features a few strikes.[7][6]
Lan Wangji is present in the Mingshi during the attempt at Evocation, while Lan Sizhui and Lan Jingyi are speaking with Wei Wuxian.[8]
Overall, the severed Demonic Left Arm of the novel is replaced by the Sword Spirit possessed by the Yin Tiger Tally in the Web Series.[8]
Wei Wuxian's feigned attempt to imitate a lunatic cutsleeve is replaced with his relief at being able to escape the Cloud Recesses' rules.[8]
Little Apple is left at the Cloud Recesses when Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji depart,[8] and Wei Wuxian does not learn Fairy's name until Jin Ling frees him from Jiang Cheng.[9]
