The thirty-second episode of the Web Series premiered on July 30, 2019.
Synopsis[]
Wei Wuxian sneaks into Golden Carp Tower to glimpse Jiang Yanli and Madam Jin keeping vigil by the coffin of Jin Zixuan. Although Madam Jin insists she rest, Jiang Yanli refuses; thus, Madam Jin leaves to fetch food for her daughter-in-law.
Once away, Madam Jin doubles over in tears. She then notices Wei Wuxian and screams, prompting him to flee before speaking to Jiang Yanli.
He comes across a group of gossiping cultivators by the city gates, where the bodies of the remnants of the Qishan Wen Clan, including Granny Wen and Si-shu, hang. The cultivators discuss how Wen Ning suddenly attacked during his peaceful surrender, killing several cultivators and express relief that Wen Ning and Wen Qing are burned to ash. They also mention that the Four Great Clans plan to hold a Pledge Conference to forever oppose Wei Wuxian in Nightless City.
When the cultivators assert their desire to battle Wei Wuxian should he ever leave the Burial Mounds, he uses Chenqing to paralyze them and briefly strangles a cultivator who accuses him of bullying.
In Nightless City, Jin Guangyao hands out goblets of wine to the prominent clan leaders. Jin Guangshan leads them to pour it on the ground before smashing the cups in remembrance of those who died during the Sunshot Campaign. Jin Guangshan then scatters the ashes of Wen Qing and Wen Ning, to the cheers of many in the crowd.
Meanwhile, Lan Wangji encounters the cultivators attacked by Wei Wuxian. After freeing them from their spell, he rushes towards Nightless City.
Jin Guangshan declares that tomorrow, they will scatter the ashes of the remnants of the Qishan Wen Clan alongside Wei Wuxian's ashes. Suddenly, laughter echoes from the roof of the Sun Palace.
Wei Wuxian says he has saved them the trouble of finding him, and Nie Mingjue accuses him of arrogance. He then confronts Jin Guangshan on his promise to end his crusade against the remnants of the Qishan Wen Clan if Wen Qing and Wen Ning turned themselves in, but Jin Guangshan maintains that Wen Ning's sudden attack during surrender negated his goodwill.
When Wei Wuxian points out that he was the one ambushed on Qiongqi Road, Clan Leader Yao retorts that he should not have been so brutal. After Clan Leader Yao replies that many of those killed were innocent, Wei Wuxian replies that the Wen remnants were innocent, too.
An archer scoffs at the notion of any Wen as innocent, and Jin Guangshan accuses of Wei Wuxian of fancying himself a martyr. Wei Wuxian attempts to protest his innocence in casting the Thousand Sores and Hundred Holes Curse, but it is apparent that the crowd has already judged him guilty. As the argument goes on, Wei Wuxian realizes that no one is listening, and everything he says will be used against him.
The archer shoots towards him. Wei Wuxian stops the arrow and sends it back into his chest, killing him. The archer's brother screams, and the crowd views it as more proof of Wei Wuxian's cruelty.
Wei Wuxian finally uses Chenqing, beginning a battle of demonic energy against all the cultivators gathered save the Yunmeng Jiang Clan. Lan Wangji arrives and attempts to reason with him, requesting that Wei Wuxian trust him. Just then, Jiang Yanli's voice cries out from the battle.
Wei Wuxian rushes into the fray to find her. However, unnoticed by the cultivators, a second flute player arrives and begins to turn the cultivators into Puppets.
Jiang Yanli is injured by a Puppet, to the horror of Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian. As Jiang Cheng cradles her, she asks Wei Wuxian to stop the battle. However, he realizes that he cannot control them.
The archer's brother rushes up behind him, and Jiang Yanli suddenly strikes Wei Wuxian, sending him hurtling backwards while a sword pierces her throat.
Jiang Cheng holds her body in shock while Wei Wuxian screams in despair. He strangles the brother to death with a terrible expression on his face.

Divergence from the Novel[]
In the Web Series, one of the gossiping cultivators claims that the Gusu Lan Clan lost many members attempting to mediate the skirmish on Qiongqi Path. In the novel, the Gusu Lan Clan loses those cultivators at Golden Carp Tower when they attempt to mediate the surrender of Wen Ning and Wen Qing; no Lans are present at the ambush on Qiongqi Path.[1]
Wei Wuxian's actions against the cultivators who gossip about him are significantly toned down in the Web Series; in the novel, he beats one man to the extent of kicking out his teeth.[1]
The novel's Bloodbath of Nightless City includes Wei Wuxian's use of Fierce Corpses, not demonic energy. Although Lan Wangji does confront him, rather than listen, Wei Wuxian firmly believes that Lan Wangji means to kill him at the time. Additionally, there is no Flute Player that keeps him from controlling the corpses; rather, Wei Wuxian's own distraught mental state causes him to lose control.[2]
