The twenty-second episode of the Web Series premiered on July 17, 2019.
Synopsis[]
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji reminisce about their time in the Cloud Recesses, and Wei Wuxian explains that he is using slightly different tricks than Demonic Cultivation.
Nie Mingjue delivers a speech on the atrocities of the Qishan Wen Clan before the cultivators leave to attack Nightless City and finish the Sunshot Campaign. Nie Huaisang remains in the Impure Realm.
As Jiang Cheng and Jin Zixuan move ahead to clear several of the Puppets, Wen Ruohan uses the Yin Metal to summon fierce Puppets whose wounds transform members of the Yunmeng Jiang and Lanling Jin Clans into puppets themselves.
Realizing that a straightforward assault on Nightless City is impossible, Nie Mingjue decides to lead a stealth assassination attempt into Nightless City, despite the risk.
As Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji examine those turned into Puppets, they are alerted that something is wrong with Jiang Yanli. Wei Wuxian arrives to discover Jiang Yanli in tears as Jin Zixuan turns his back to her.
Mianmian intervenes, explaining that Jiang Yanli always made an extra bowl of soup each day for her two brothers and another for Jin Zixuan. However, as she was too shy to give it to him herself, she hired a maid named A-Yuan to deliver the soup. Unfortunately, Jin Zixuan believed that A-Yuan was delivering the soup, and when he caught Jiang Yanli with it, he publicly accused her of abusing her high position to take credit for someone else's work.
Infuriated, Wei Wuxian punches Jin Zixuan, and only Lan Wangji's intervention prevents the fight from continuing.
Lan Xichen arrives with a detailed map of Nightless City to aid Nie Mingjue's plan. Although he concedes that the painter of the map and his rescuer from the burning of the Cloud Recesses are the same person, he declines to say their name.
After ten days, Nie Mingjue has yet to return, so Lan Xichen leads an assault on Nightless City. They are cut off and driven towards the city by many Puppets, however.
Back inside Nightless City, an injured Nie Mingjue and his men are brought before Wen Ruohan. He is horrified to realize that Meng Yao is actually Wen Ruohan's right-hand man. After attacking him, Nie Mingjue is resoundingly defeated by Wen Ruohan, who then entraps the rest of the clans inside Nightless City with many Puppets.
Wei Wuxian leaps atop a tower to use Chenqing to control the puppets, leading them to destroy each other. In shock that anyone could counter the Yin Metal, Wen Ruohan rushes outside.

Divergence from the Novel[]
In the novel, Nie Mingjue is captured during a surprise attack at Yangquan and taken to Nightless City, not while an attempting to assassinate Wen Ruohan in Nightless City. There is never a unified attack on Nightless City.[1]
Nie Huaisang is kept away from the front lines in the Cloud Recesses, not in the Impure Realm.[2]
Wei Wuxian's beating of Jin Zixuan occurs in Langya, and is mediated by Jiang Cheng and Jin Guangshan, not Lan Wangji.[3]
