The fourteenth episode of the Web Series premiered on July 9, 2019.
Synopsis[]
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji devise a plan to kill the Xuanwu of Slaughter so that they can escape. While Wei Wuxian ventures inside its shell to drive it out, Lan Wangji lies in wait with Chord Assassination.
Inside the shell, Wei Wuxian encounters the muck of decaying corpses and a sword of unusual resentful energy that sends screams through his ears whenever he touches it. He successfully forces the Xuanwu to leave its shell, however, and Lan Wangji kills it with Chord Assassination.
In the aftermath, a nearly delirious Wei Wuxian requests that Lan Wangji sing to him as he clutches the sword. Although he inquires the name of the song, he loses consciousness before Lan Wangji responds.
Meanwhile, Wen Ruohan and Wen Chao realize that Xue Yang has indeed run off with one piece of the Yin Metal.
When Wei Wuxian awakens, he is in the company of Jiang Cheng, who teamed up with Jin Zixuan to save them. Lan Wangji has already returned to the Cloud Recesses. Although a cultivator reports that Jiang Cheng is in the area, Wen Chao scoffs at the idea that Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji could have survived.
Back at Lotus Pier, Jiang Fengmian instructs the Sixth Shidi in archery when he learns that Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian have returned. As Wei Wuxian rests in his room, Jiang Yanli feeds him soup as Wei Wuxian explains that Lan Wangji killed the Xuanwu of Slaughter. to which Jiang Fengmian notes that Lan Wangji actually gave Wei Wuxian the credit.
Jiang Cheng scolds Wei Wuxian for his involvement in the fight against Wen Chao, prompting Jiang Fengmian to reprimand his son for not truly knowing the motto of the Yunmeng Jiang Clan. Yu Ziyuan storms in, arguing that Jiang Fengmian favors Wei Wuxian over Jiang Cheng and that there are rumors that Wei Wuxian is actually his son. The two parents leave the room to continue their argument.
Jiang Cheng breaks down, venting that his father just doesn't like him because he doesn't like his mother. He expresses frustration that he traveled without rest to rescue Wei Wuxian, yet his efforts gained him no recognition while Wei Wuxian gets credit for killing a legendary beast.
Wei Wuxian responds that not all clan leaders must be alike. He promises that when Jiang Cheng takes over the Yunmeng Jiang Clan, he will be his right-hand man. Just as the Gusu Lan Clan has Twin Jades, so will the Yunmeng Jiang Clan have Twin Heroes.[1]

Divergence from the Novel[]
In the novel, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji are rescued by Jiang Cheng and Jiang Fengmian, not Jiang Cheng and Jin Zixuan.[2]
The scene where Jiang Fengmian gives the Sixth Shidi archery advice is unique to the Web Series; in the novel, he was simply a poor shot.[3]
