Discussion Conference (清谈会, Qīngtán Huì) is an annual event for the gathering of the cultivation world.
Description[]
Discussion Conferences are held yearly, with a different clan hosting each year. The Qishan Wen Clan's grand Discussion Conference lasted 7 days.[1]
They open with an elaborate banquet,[1] and the morning after the banquet, the Discussion Forum begins.[2]
Other festivities include an archery competition for disciples under the age of twenty; for instance, shooting paper effigies possessed by fierce spirits while leaving the unpossessed decoys alone.[2]

Qinghe Nie Clan Discussion Conference[]
When Wei Wuxian was fifteen, he and the rest of Lan Qiren's students gain a few days of no classes due to Lan Qiren Nie Clan's Discussion Conference.[3]
Qishan Wen Clan Discussion Conference[]
The next year, Wei Wuxian has the opportunity to attend a grand discussion conference hosted by Qishan Wen Clan. All juniors are required to wear a uniform of a red round-collar robe, with sleeves that had tight openings and a belt of nine golden rings.[1]
During this conference, Wei Wuxian encounters Wen Ning and marveled at his archery skills. Though Wen Ning was disqualified from the archery conference after failing to perform before Wen Chao, the four juniors with the best results in the archery competition were Wei Wuxian, Lan Xichen, Jin Zixuan, and Lan Wangji, despite Lan Wangji leaving early.[4][5]
Lanling Jin Clan Discussion Conference[]
Not long after Wei Wuxian's death, Xiao Xingchen apprehended Xue Yang after his massacre of Yueyang Chang Clan and brought him before the clans at a discussion conference hosted by Jin Guangshan. After detailing Xue Yang's crimes, Xiao Xingchen demanded severe punishment.[6]
Years later, another Lanling Jin Clan Discussion Conference is hosted by Jin Guangyao and Qin Su, and attended by Jin Ling, Jiang Cheng, Nie Huaisang, Su She, Lan Xichen, Lan Wangji, and Wei Wuxian resurrected in Mo Xuanyu's body. It opens with a banquet in Pageantry Hall.[2]
Following the banquet, however, the conference is thrown into disarray when Wei Wuxian discovered Nie Mingjue's severed head in Jin Guangyao's treasure vault, Wei Wuxian's subsequent outing as the Yiling Patriarch, and the sudden suicide of Qin Su.[7]
Laoling Qin Clan Discussion Conference[]
Evidently, the Laoling Qin Clan also hosted discussion conferences, as Lan Qiren recalls Bicao's face from her assistance of Madam Qin during the conference.[8]
