Day and Night - Part Eight is the ninety-seventh chapter of Mo Dao Zu Shi.

Synopsis []

As soon as Wei Wuxian hears Lan Wangji close his door, he slaps himself. His face burns, and even pouring a teapot over his head does nothing to cool it.

Unable to calm down and sleep, he leaps out his window to venture outside. Wei Wuxian passes the wall they graffitied earlier, and is again struck with regret for what he did to Lan Wangji. Although he knows he must erase his name from the wall, he feels reluctant to do so.

Just then, a black-robed figure begins filing the wall. The person is none other than Wen Ning, who has decided to remove the names himself. Wen Ning, however, notices Wei Wuxian's distress, and walks closer to inquire what is wrong.

Suddenly, Wen Ning backs away in evident embarrassment. Wei Wuxian realizes that his lips are swollen and his neck bruised from Lan Wangji's bites.

Wei Wuxian slumps to the ground, saying he wants a drink. When Wen Ning tries to rush off, he stops him, reminding him that he is not a servant and has no money. Wei Wuxian then declares that he will give up drinking, and Wen Ning recalls how Wen Qing tried to convince him to stop drinking years ago with no success.

Wei Wuxian asks Wen Ning what he wants to do after all of this, to Wen Ning's confusion. Wei Wuxian realizes that Wen Ning has always followed either Wen Qing or Wei Wuxian, and is not good at making his own decisions.

Wei Wuxian empathizes with Wen Ning, because he himself cannot bear the thought of being apart from Lan Wangji. His anxiety grows, and he leaps up, declaring that they must go look for trouble.[1]
