Core of the Truehearted - Part Four is the eighty-second chapter of Mo Dao Zu Shi.
Synopsis []
The Fierce Corpses rush towards Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji as the others flee the cave. The juniors return, however, and Lan Jingyi begs an escaping cultivator to help, only for the man to tell him to "get lost."
Wei Wuxian orders Wen Ning to throw the juniors out again, but Wen Ning suddenly freezes when he sees the face of Lan Sizhui.
The juniors seize their chance to rush forward, with the exception of Jin Ling: Jiang Cheng hauls his nephew outside, throws him to the ground, and runs back in himself. Despite Jiang Cheng's threats, Jin Ling again returns to the cave.
As a Fierce Corpse lunges for him, Wei Wuxian realizes he is out of Talismans. Just then, a corpse arises from the Blood Pool to tear the Fierce Corpse in half.
The corpse drips red blood, and the corpses controlled by the Yin Tiger Tally back away from it. A second blood corpse arises, and soon several dozen blood corpses climb out of the pool to destroy the Fierce Corpses.
Jin Ling is astonished, as he has always heard that all of the corpses on the Burial Mounds were incinerated after the First Siege. Clan Leader Ouyang reveals that the remains of the Qishan Wen Clan, however, were dumped into the Blood Pool.
The small, hunched blood corpse of an old lady approaches Lan Sizhui. Despite its grotesque appearance, he is unafraid, and asks his friends not to fight it. The corpse calls out in a faint voice as it reaches for his face, only to fight another cave of corpses that have just arrived.
Wen Ning begins to shout, recognizing his family. After less than an hour, the blood corpses have defeated the corpses controlled by the Tiger Seal – thereby saving the lives of the people who killed them in the First Siege.
Wen Ning, Wei Wuxian, and Lan Wanghi salute the blood corpses, including Granny Wen and Uncle Four. The corpses then dissolve into crimson ash, which Wen Ning frantically collects. With the exception of Jin Ling, the juniors assist by handing him pouches to collect the ashes of his family.
The Dempon-Quelling Cave is dead silent, with the cultivators realizing that, while they came to slaughter evil, they needed 'evil' to save them in the end.
Fang Mengchen angrily confronts Wei Wuxian, insisting that this cannot be atonement. Wei Wuxian asks him honestly what he wants to do, then. Just as Yi Weichun has lost a leg, Fang Mengchen has lost his parents, Wei Wuxian has been torn apart and lost his family.
Fang Mengchen insists that he cannot forgive him, and Wei Wuxian replies that he is not asking for forgiveness. He claims that the blood he has spilt will remain in his mind even longer than it will in Fang Mengchen.
Nie Huaisang asks if they are free to go, and a female cultivator announces that four hours have passed. She inquires if everyone's spiritual powers have returned.[1]
