Bichen (避尘, Bìchén) is Lan Wangji's renowned sword. When not in use, it is usually carried on his back.[1]
Description[]
Although Bichen's thin, nearly transparent blade gives the impression of a lightweight sword, it is actually strong enough to cut through iron and heavy enough for non-cultivators to be unable to wield it. The blade exudes an air of ice and snow and a light blue glare when drawn.[2] It is capable of unsheathing a few inches without Lan Wangji's touch.[3]
Use[]
Bichen is Lan Wangji's main weapon in night-hunting. As a junior, Lan Wangji draws Bichen when he first encounters Wei Wuxian, who is sneaking Emperor's Smile into the Cloud Recesses.[4] He again draws the sword when Wei Wuxian slips pornography into his Buddhist scriptures.[5]
During the investigation of the Waterborne Abyss, Lan Wangji uses Bichen's superior strength to rescue Wei Wuxian and Su She, leaving Jiang Cheng astounded at his abilities and strength with his sword.[6]
Like all of the young masters, Lan Wangji surrenders Bichen to Wen Chao during the Qishan Wen Clan's indoctrination a couple of years later.[7] He only retrieves the sword about a month after the Sunshot Campaign begins.[8]
At the Night-hunt on Mount Baifeng following the war, Lan Wangji uses Bichen to cut down the tree he had been beating up in frustration for breaking his self-control and kissing the blindfolded Wei Wuxian. He then uses the sword to block Jin Zixuan's Suihua once it is drawn against Wei Wuxian.[9]
Shortly before the Bloodbath of Nightless City, Lan Wangji encounters the cultivators Wei Wuxian had beaten and pressed against the ground with Ghosts. He frees them with Bichen before learning Wei Wuxian's location.[10] After the battle, Lan Wangji takes Wei Wuxian away on Bichen to hide him in a cave. He uses the sword to injure thirty-three elders to save Wei Wuxian, earning himself thirty-three strikes of the Discipline Whip as a result.[11]
Thirteen years later, Lan Wangji uses Bichen to destroy all four-hundred Immortal-Binding Nets that Jiang Cheng had set up across the mountain, as Lan Wangji believed the nets unfair to other cultivators.[2]
During their investigation of the Stone Castles, Lan Wangji breaks through a wall with Bichen to save the suffocating Jin Ling.[3] He also uses Bichen to slice off the trousers of the corpses buried inside to find the legs belonging to the Demonic Left Arm's body.[12]
In Yueyang, Lan Wangji fights the Gravedigger with Bichen. Thanks to a combination of his skills and Wei Wuxian's Demonic Cultivation, they successfully retrieve the torso they had been looking for. Later that evening, Wei Wuxian removes Bichen from the drunk Lan Wangji to free Wen Ning's chains.[13] When Wei Wuxian takes advantage of the situation to point at himself and ask Lan Wangji what he thinks of him, Lan Wangji replies "Mine." Wei Wuxian, however, misinterprets Lan Wangji to be referring to Bichen, which is currently on his back.[14]
Lan Wangji uses Bichen to prevent the junior disciples' swords from striking Wei Wuxian when they first encounter each other in Yi City.[15] He later faces off against Xue Yang's Shuanghua and Jiangzai, using both Bichen and Wangji[16] to win the fight.[17]
During the Discussion Conference at Golden Carp Tower, Lan Wangji defends Wei Wuxian with Bichen after the latter's identity exposure.[18] Later, as they journey towards the Burial Mounds, Lan Wangjhi uses Bichen to help dig graves for the Fierce Corpses killed by Wen Ning.[19]
At the Second Siege of the Burial Mounds, Lan Wangji attacks with Bichen to provoke Su She into drawing his sword, revealing himself as the culprit behind the other cultivators' loss of spiritual powers.[20] Lan Wangji then uses Bichen defend the cultivators who had lost their powers.[21]
In the aftermath, Lan Wangji takes Wei Wuxian on Bichen to fly to the distressed Jin Ling's boat.[22] Lan Wangji later draws Bichen to fight against Jiang Cheng when he confronts Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian on their relationship in Lotus Pier's ancestral hall.[23]
Once drunk in Yunping City, Lan Wangji not only stabs a hole through the inn floor with Bichen,[24] but also graffitis a wall with Bichen to read "Lan Wangji of Gusu was here." He then hands the sword to Wei Wuxian to add his own name.[25]
When Wei Wuxian is held hostage by Jin Guangyao, Lan Wangji taps Bichen twice to seal his spiritual power.[26] Once his powers are restored, he uses Bichen to sever Jin Guangyao's arm to prevent the man from accidentally decapitating Jin Ling.[27]
While everyone fights Nie Mingjue, Lan Wangji discovers that not even Bichen can pierce the fierce corpse's chest.[28] Despite its ineffectiveness, Lan Wangji sends Bichen forth the moment he realizes Lan Xichen is within reach of Nie Mingjue.[29]
During a dream influenced by the Mo Incense Burner, Wei Wuxian uses the hilt of Bichen as a sex toy to tease Lan Wangji.[30]
