Baoshan Sanren (抱山散人, Bàoshān Sànrén) is the teacher of Yanling Daoren, Cangse Sanren and Xiao Xingchen.
History[]
Baoshan Sanren is a cultivator who lives on a celestial mountain secluded from the rest of the world. She is rumored to be of the same generation as Wen Mao and Lan An, which would make her several hundred years old.[1]
She often takes abandoned children up the mountain to be her disciples. All of her disciples vow to devote their whole lives to her and to cultivation, never leaving the mountain or entering human society. If they choose to leave, they are forbidden from returning to the mountain or speaking with their teacher again.[1]
Three of her pupils do leave: Yanling Daoren, Cangse Sanren, and Xiao Xingchen. After the massacre of Lotus Pier, Wei Wuxian suggests that his mother's teacher Baoshan Sanren would be able to restore Jiang Cheng's Golden Core. However, because he has no idea where to find her, he convinces Wen Qing to transfer his own core into Jiang Cheng instead.[2]
Of the three pupils who left, only Xiao Xingchen ever returns. Once his close friend Song Lan is blinded, Xiao Xingchen takes Song Lan back to Baoshan Sanren, breaking his vow. He begs Baoshan Sanren to restore Song Lan's sight, even requesting that his teacher transfer his own eyes into Song Lan, thereby blinding himself.[3]
Web Series Divergence[]
The Web Series depicts a close friendship between Baoshan Sanren and Lan Yi. Distraught at her friend's use of the Yin Metal, Baoshan Sanren confronts her to change her ways, to no avail.[4]

- In the Manhua, Baoshan Sanren was initially drawn as a man before the artist redrew the character as a woman.
