A-Yan (阿胭, Ā-Yān) is the daughter of Blacksmith Zheng (郑铁匠, Zhèng Tiějiàng) and the only victim of the Soul-Stealing Heavenly Maiden to regain her soul.
Appearance[]
After her ordeal with the Heavenly Maiden, A-Yan has a dull look in her eyes. She stares straight ahead without blinking, and wore an unfading smile.[1]
Personality[]
Prior to the loss of her soul, A-Yan seemed to have been a devout person, as she went to pray for her husband's love and fidelity after becoming engaged.[2]
History[]
A-Yan is a resident of Fojiao Town, a town by the foot of Dafan Mountain.[1] After becoming engaged, she immediately went to the cave of the Maiden to pray for her husband to love and be faithful to her for all of his life.[2]
Her future husband was killed by a jackal the very next day. After this, A-Yan appeared to lose her soul; apart from being able to breathe, she could do nothing else. As she was the second townsperson to suffer this fate, no one expected a recovery.[1]
Her father approached the Heavenly Maiden to pray for his daughter's restoration. As a result, A-Yan's soul was restored and her father's taken.[2] However, A-Yan's soul state had been fractured, and she tends to dance cheerfully to anyone she met outside, imitating the Heavenly Maiden's dance and smile.[1][2]
Wei Wuxian accidentally bumps into her as he approaches Dafan Mountain, and A-Yan proceeds to dance for him until her distressed mother takes her away.[1]
Animation Divergence[]
A-Yan does not appear in the Animation, which cuts the soul-stealing subplot by depicting the Heavenly Maiden as possessed by the Demonic Left Arm rather than an entity itself.
Web Series Divergence[]
A-Yan's character seems to have been blended with the Round-Faced Girl in the Web Series, as she offers apples to Wei Wuxian that he then uses to maneuver Little Apple.[3]
